Help Save History
The Old Cuchillo Bar and Store property suffered a devastating fire in 2000, leaving the roof missing in several rooms and allowing the elements to penetrate the historic adobe mud walls. These old adobe walls are quickly deteriorating with the New Mexico monsoonal rains. In Summer of 2008 the rains deteiorated the adobe, and part of the rock facade fell into the porch area. With the hopes of re-opening the proper
ty to the public, The Old Cuchillo Bar and Store is trying to raise $100,000. Although it would take much more than that to restore the buildings to their original state, This would allow for the facade to be rebuilt and a roof to be put in place in order to save the adobe walls from further deterioration and also allow continued preservation of the buildings.
Along with the purchase of the Old Cuchillo Bar property in 2007, The current owner Josh Bond also recieved historical documents, artifacts, local antiques and many photos of Cuchillo and it's surrounding area. With preservation in mind, Bond intends to house a small museum in the buildings to share the history of this little town with the public.
